Artists

João Carvalho
João Carvalho seeks, through his drawings, to bring proverbs, stories, legends, and popular sayings from a mystical Portugal, with the aim of provoking the audience’s wonder. In this exhibition, the artist returns to the same conceptual approach as in previous ones, maintaining, in his graphic expression, animals as the main interpreters of his aesthetic narrative, inspired by Aesop’s Fables (many of which were translated by Jean de La Fontaine in the 17th century). These more recent works also recount new fables of dystopias, in which the destruction of the promises of the modern world is accelerated by its submission to the new realities of the contemporary.
