Joaquín Ivars
This time, two exhibitions, "Mil x Uno (1000 x 1)" and "Uno x Mil (1 x 1000)", will be held concurrently at the Embassy of Spain in Japan and the Instituto Cervantes Tokyo. Spanish artist Joaquín Ivars will present eight works created between 2019 and 2024, with six of them being previously unreleased and the remaining two showcasing the completed forms of original pieces. Among them, four were produced during the artist's stay in Japan in 2023/2024 for production and research activities, representing the one-year achievement of the artist and university professor Ivars. These latest works demonstrate the diversity and complexity of an artist engaged in the international art world for over 30 years.

Each piece employs different techniques and conceptual approaches, bridging individuality and sociality while creating tension between them. The common themes shared by both exhibitions arise from psychological, economic, generational, identity, self-referential, media, philosophical, and socio-political factors, constantly oscillating between the individual and the collective.

Despite having different starting points, the two exhibitions resonate within a space of what the artist describes as "sponge-like" (meaning porous, open, and permeable) movable thought, constantly resonating with each other. The duality constructed by the titles, two exhibition spaces, and artistic elements serves as a stage where complexity and paradox unfold as protagonists. From this staging, movements between other characters and the activation of various interpretations flow forth.

"Uno x Mil (1 x 1000)"
These four works possess introspective characteristics while maintaining connections with the community. Through these pieces, Ivars presents himself as a sort of conceptual character, demonstrating the relationship between the mechanisms of art and the formation, production, interpretation, and use of its ideas. Here, his more theoretical approach to production behind the scenes is explicitly revealed. The artist takes the stage while observing the scene from outside.
