Jun Morinaga
Jun Morinaga (1937-2018), a photographer born in Nagasaki, spent his career exploring the question, "What is photography?" One of his well-known series is "River - Cumulative Shadow," which captures rivers in Tokyo suffering from pollution due to economic development. Another significant series is "Waves - Sea," portraying the sea surfaces across Japan.

From the early stages of his career, Morinaga was aware of the importance of original prints. For him, photography went beyond mere replication of the subject; he emphasized the reality emitted by the photograph as an object, considering the "facts in the photograph" as the most crucial aspect.

In this exhibition, we showcase 42 pieces from the "River - Cumulative Shadows" and "Wave - Sea" series held in our collection. The photographs, characterized by beautiful tonality and a powerful presence, provide insight into Morinaga's artistic world.
