KMMA Collection Exhibition I: Art Scene '80s

Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art
Finished
The 1980s marked a transition from the Showa era to the Heisei era, defined by the launch of home gaming consoles and the widespread use of PCs. This period saw a booming economy with the emergence of a new art trend called "New Painting," characterized by intense brushwork capturing themes like life's origins and mythology. This movement influenced artists globally, sparking diverse new expressions. Our exhibition showcases works from the museum's collection by key New Painting artists and highlights sculptor Mitsukuni Takimoto's wood carvings themed around water, shown for the first time in Kyushu.
