Kami: The Myriad Deities of Japan

The Tokugawa Art Museum
Starts 1/4
Throughout Japan, gods are enthroned to protect the land and the people who live there. People formed communities and prayed to the gods to receive the blessings they brought and thanked them for their blessings. Tribes with the same gods as their ancestors also emerged, and people dedicated specific requests to the gods who were skilled in that field. The exhibition focuses on the places where the gods were enshrined, the people who worshipped them, and the various festivals that took place to trace the relationship between the Japanese people and their deities.
