Japanese family crests, known as "kamon," are beautifully designed with simplicity, featuring a wide range of elements such as animals, plants, nature, utensils, and geometric patterns. It is said that there are as many as 50,000 different designs. Kamon have been cherished for a long time as symbols of family history and as patterns on kimono and everyday items. There are many similarities between kamon and the designs of traditional Japanese sweets, both reflecting the aesthetic sensibility of the Japanese people.
This exhibition, with the cooperation of "Kyogen," which preserves the hand-painted techniques of family crests, will introduce a variety of family crests and designs of traditional Japanese sweets that embody wishes for prosperity, wealth, longevity, and other aspirations.
