Kanjiro Kawai
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of our museum, this exhibition highlights the diverse creative endeavors of the renowned Japanese ceramic artist, Kanjiro Kawai (1890-1966). Alongside Soetsu Yanagi and Shoji Hamada, Kawai played a key role in founding the mingei movement, focusing on the beauty of everyday utensils. Curated from the Kawai Kanjiro Memorial Museum's collection in Kyoto, marking its 50th anniversary, the showcase features around 200 works, including two previously unreleased pieces. The exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of Kawai's ceramic art and sculptures, spanning the Showa and post-war periods.
