9s Gallery is pleased to present Karin Hosono's solo exhibition, "Spell," from Friday, June 20, 2025, to Sunday, June 29, 2025.
This exhibition focuses on the theme of "a small crush in everyday life," which Karin Hosono has consistently placed at the root of her work.This exhibition will embody her "past" and "future" as an artist.
The word "spell" is filled with gentle prayers and wishes that, though small, can transcend reality. The "cat," which often appears in the artist's works, is a warm presence that maintains the artist's axis to the extent that the artist recognizes it as a part of themselves while being a stranger to them.
In this exhibition, cats are depicted as floating in a meadow, clad in light, or transformed into the shape of a fruit. These works are like a "spell" that expresses the relationship between our daily life and a slightly mysterious world. The artist attempts to visualize and quietly hand over to the viewer the feelings of wishing for someone's safety, the desire to be close to them, and the joy of simply being there.
This exhibition presents once again the artist's theme of "small crushes" in daily life, which she has been focusing on in her activities, by concentrating them into the word "spell." We are sure that the artist will continue to create works that will inspire viewers to love the "ordinary days" of their own lives.
