Standing in the vast field of "design" together as father and son, Kazumasa and Kazufumi Nagai continue to expand their interpretations of creativity through completely different approaches.
Kazumasa Nagai started his career as a graphic designer with geometric expressions, but a significant shift occurred in his style when he began depicting concrete animals. His Life series, which pursues the essence of life, has become a lifelong endeavor spanning nearly 40 years.
On the other hand, Kazufumi Nagai founded Hakuhodo Design in 2003 after working in advertising agencies. He finds value and excitement in designing concepts and mainly focuses on branding.
This exhibition, which has been made possible now, likely reflects the changing values over time that have greatly influenced each of their paths and the dynamics of their relationship as father and son.
Kazushi Nagai recounts, "In the past, Mr. Kazumitsu Tanaka proposed a father-son project to me, but I declined because I lacked experience, which has always stayed with me. After seeing the Life series for a long time, I wondered how I would express it if it were me." This is how the idea for this project was born.
In this exhibition, universal motifs are explored through new poster designs, video works, and dialogue texts, revealing both the differences and commonalities in interpretation and the relationship between the two.
