Kazumi Nakamura (born in 1956) is a colorful painter of abstract paintings, active both in Japan and abroad, including Asia and the United States. Born in Chiba Prefecture, Nakamura studied postwar American abstract expressionist painting at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music from a theoretical perspective, but began painting in earnest in the early 1980s, specializing in oil painting at the university's graduate school.
Nakamura has participated in numerous exhibitions and held major solo shows at the Sezon Museum of Contemporary Art (1999), Iwaki City Museum of Art (2002), and the National Art Center, Tokyo (2014), and was awarded the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize in 2015. At the same time, he also teaches younger artists and is currently a professor at Tama Art University.
This exhibition presents recent and new works from his three series of paintings, "Bird of Existence," "Breaking An," and "Sacred. This exhibition is an opportunity to see Nakamura's works full of vivid colors and energy, which are at the forefront of contemporary painting, in Kawagoe, where he once lived for more than 20 years.
