Kei Kiyohara "Dash for Trash"

Space Noboru
Starts 4/19

Artists

Kei Kiyohara
For this exhibition, Kei Kiyohara has created oil paintings on repurposed supports — frames found at flea markets, canvases once painted by someone else. By explicitly noting the origins of these materials in the work, the exhibition quietly poses a question to its viewers: what is this painting worth?
Taking its title from a stock market term — "Dash for Trash," the rush of investors toward low-value, unpopular stocks — the exhibition draws a parallel between art valuation and market logic, asking how the context of a painting's materials and support might shape the way a work is seen and understood. Kiyohara speaks openly of having little sales history, and refers to her own work as "trash stock" — yet the pricing remains entirely her own decision. We invite you to come and see that conviction for yourself.
