In his debut solo exhibition at Nomart last year, Prayer, Ikegami transcended his earlier focus on the bodies of others and turned toward an exploration of the depths of the psyche. He introduced bold departures from his prior approach, including drawing directly onto photographic images for the first time and employing white gofun in striking contrast to charcoal black. These works marked a decisive shift in his practice.
Eleven months later, this exhibition further expands the possibilities opened by that presentation. The title, Here and Now, signifies not only a spiritual dimension but also an attempt to step outside the flow of time and concentrate one’s awareness on a single point: the present moment. By shifting his attention from the tangible to the intangible, Ikegami refines his sensibility and advances toward new forms of expression. Through paintings and large-scale drawings that develop techniques first explored in the previous exhibition, as well as sculptural works, the exhibition space will offer insight into the continued deepening of his thought and practice. On the opening day, a talk event will be held with Emiko Yoshioka, Professor in the Faculty of Art at Kyoto Seika University, who has long engaged with Ikegami’s work.
We invite you to experience firsthand the ever deeper and more expansive spiritual cosmos that Ikegami continues to explore.
