Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto
Finished

Artists

Keiji Kozai
This solo exhibition features Keiji Kozai, a Western-style painter born and living in Yamaga, Japan. Kozai's subjects include the Nabeta Yokonana burial mound and Aso, and he continues to paint with his distinctive reddish colors and a unique matiere that evokes the texture of soil and rocks.

The artist's chosen challenge is how to express on canvas, in what composition and in what colors, the impressions of the colors and forms created by the wind and soil, and his thoughts on the activities of the people who lived in this land in the distant past. This exhibition introduces the artist's work of the past 20 years, including work that has won special prizes at Nitten and work that has received awards from the Jigenkai.
