Kenichi Kanazawa (1956-) has created works based on the theme of "material, form, and sound" such as "Piece of Sound" and "Vibration Mode," and in recent years has used them to develop performances and collaborations with musicians, dancers, and other artists. In parallel with these activities, since his debut as a sculptor, he has pursued works involving geometric forms and space, using iron, stainless steel, and aluminum as materials.
This exhibition titled "Kenichi Kanazawa Aluminum Works 2001-2023" will consist of aluminum works from 2001 to his recent works. Aluminum square pipes, standardized as industrial products, have a sharp shape and a surface quality that reflects light faintly. Kanazawa constructs them according to a certain rule, and by making simple shapes such as slits, he creates several variations of forms that are both similar and different. By juxtaposing these forms in space, Kanazawa invites the viewer to experience the relationship between them and the movement of the eye that follows them.
