Artists

Kenichi Nakaya
Kenichi Nakaya was born in Hokkaido and is an artist based in Tokyo.

The title "Kyowai Mingei" is named as an attempt where "Mingei" changes its form, distorts emptily over a long period, and tries to convey intention.

Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese folk crafts familiar in people's lives for a long time, Nakaya's artistic style involves blending craftsmanship and industry, analog and digital, past and future in a delicate balance. Particularly known for unique works like "Effect Beckoning Cat," which incorporates digital glitches such as noise and screen distortions, resembling "glitch effects."

In this exhibition, the first in Kyoto, Nakaya has prepared a variety of works, including pieces that are easy to incorporate into indoor spaces and easy to display. His diverse attempts to transform folk crafts into art from a new perspective can be witnessed directly.
