Kevin H. Jones
Kevin H. Jones' most recent exhibition engages the visual and material language of commercial advertising, specifically the billboard, as a site of cultural critique and aesthetic transformation. By appropriating used billboard prints, he employs folding techniques and décollage to question the mechanisms of persuasion embedded within mass media. Through physical manipulation, the image is stripped of its clarity and repurposed as an object of reflection rather than consumption. These processes disrupt the billboard’s intended coherence, revealing the instability of the image and the fragility of its message, and perhaps even, at its base, capitalism's frivolity.
The work situates itself within a lineage of artists who have challenged advertising's seductive authority while reimagining its formal potential. In doing so, it invites a reconsideration of how visual culture mediates public space, identity, and perception.
