Kikusha Tagami
Kikusha Tagami (1753-1826) was a late Edo period haiku poet who excelled in calligraphy, painting, tea ceremony, and playing the koto. He was one of the wise men of Shimonoseki, widely known for his travels throughout Japan. He traveled extensively from Matsushima in the north to Aso and Nagasaki in the south, covering over 22,000 kilometers in a span of 40 years, making her the woman who traveled the most during the Edo period. In her later years, Tagami settled in Nagato, where her family lived, and continued her creative activities until her passing.

In this joint exhibition hosted by the Shimonoseki City Art Museum and the Shimonoseki City Historical Museum, the charm of Tagami, who passionately loved traveling and continued to learn as her curiosity led her, will be introduced through the collections of individual homes in the city.
