Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Kiyoshi Takeuchi
Kiyoshi Takeuchi (1911-2008), a native of Okayama City, studied design at Kyoto Higher Polytechnic School (now Kyoto Institute of Technology) and also studied painting at the Kansai Art Institute. After returning to Okayama, he experienced the war and worked in the advertising department of Tenmaya Department, where he did a lot of design work, and also became a member of the Nika-kai. He also taught at Okayama University and Notre Dame Seishin University for many years and devoted himself to the training of younger artists.

This exhibition focuses on his tranquil oil paintings based on cold colors influenced by Christian art, which he painted after his trips to Europe in the 1970s, as well as his assignments that show glimpses of his studies at the Kyoto Higher School of Arts and Crafts, illustrations for newspaper novels and design work after the war, and numerous drawing books. The exhibition will introduce the diverse work of Takeuchi, who led the postwar art world in Okayama and was a pioneer of designers in the prefecture.
