Kiyoto Maruyama "The Sento Fuji— World Heritage of Bathtub"

Gallery Little High
Finished

Artists

Kiyoto Maruyama
The Sento, or public bathhouses, are kind of spiritual homes, still retaining the warmth of Showa. And a picture of Mt. Fuji lies beyond the steam while soaking in a spacious bathtub. Known as the specialty of public baths, bathhouse landscape murals were first drawn about 100 years ago, and are an important art form that can be considered to be a part of Japan's historical heritage. The oldest active painter of this style is Kiyoto Maruyama, who is one of only three painters in Japan who can paint these pictures. In this exhibition, about 40 rare paintings by the artist will be displayed.
