This summer, Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg) will be transformed into an outlandish theme park by art director/creative director Koichi Kosugi.
Looking back on his childhood, Kosugi says, "I have loved drawing pictures since I was in elementary school, but more than the act of drawing itself, I was just happy to make people happy, so I drew anyway.” Now an adult, Koichi continues to send out positive and happy messages to the world through his designs.
Kosugi describes designers and art directors as "not just people who create forms, but people who translate and create ideas." He calls it "translation" to verbalize and visualize the ideas and feelings of the client and project team, which are difficult to share, through his own subjective perspective. During his first few years at Hakuhodo, Kosugi honed his unique output techniques by closely observing Kenjiro Sano's work. The results of this training, combined with Kosugi's natural ability to take pleasure in the happiness of others, have made him a one-of-a-kind "translator" who easily transcends various existing boundaries.
This exhibition, titled "Graphic Park," will be a playful plaza that encompasses all of Koichi Kosugi's representative work, including advertising design, campaigns, CI design, and brand development.
