Renso is an ongoing series showcasing new work by Kishi, whose practice is rooted in walking through cities and photographing them in search of the histories and traces embedded within everyday urban landscapes.
This nineteenth edition brings together photographs taken in Osaka's Ikuno, Taisho, and Naniwa wards. Afternoon shopping streets, narrow back alleys, passersby, and storefronts appear throughout the images. Looking closely at scenes often overlooked in daily life, the photographs reveal Kishi's enduring interest in the quiet presence of people and things as they exist beyond narrative, interpretation, or sentiment.
