At a time when words are often consumed and forgotten in an instant on social media, Kotova— Shibuya Center-gai creates a space to slow down and reflect on them once again. Borrowing the familiar format of a convenience store, the exhibition presents a diverse selection of words to browse, discover and take to heart.
The exhibition brings together a wide range of short-form writing, from words of encouragement written to oneself and things left unsaid, to a series of tanka inspired by convenience stores and horror-themed free-verse haiku. Featuring contributions by writers, musicians and comedians who engage deeply with language in their own practices, the exhibition invites visitors to find a phrase that speaks to them, one to quietly carry home like a personal talisman.
