Koyo Ishizaki + Gyujin Takamura Exhibition

Takaoka Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Koyo Ishizaki, Gyujin Takamura
When these works, each with its own individuality, come face to face in the exhibition space of a museum, a new awareness opens up, as if a chemical reaction has taken place. The harmony of seemingly dissimilar works organically woven together invites viewers into a world they have never experienced before, a world that is “heterogeneous."

This exhibition will introduce Koyo Ishizaki (1884-1947), who established herself as a painter mainly at the Bunten and Teiten exhibitions by showing her individuality in flower-and-bird paintings that express vivid colors and vitality. Sixty works of Gyujin Takamura (1901-1984), who was born in Toyama City and lived a free-spirited life as a solitary artist, will be exhibited alongside Ishizaki. By juxtaposing the works of these two artists, their individual personalities will shine even brighter, and at the same time, viewers will be able to sense the spirituality that underlies the two painters, both of whom were nurtured in the soil of Toyama.

This exhibition will be held with the cooperation of the Nanto City Fukko Museum of Art, which is associated with Koyo Ishizaki, the Gyujin Takamura Memorial Museum of Art, Toyama, which is associated with Takamura, and the Suiboku Museum of Art, Toyama, which has organized retrospectives of both painters in recent years.
