Kyosai and Gyokusui— Living Creatures

Kawanabe Kyosai Memorial Museum
Until Aug 24

Artists

Kyosai, Kyosui
This exhibition brings together hanging scrolls, preparatory sketches, proof prints, and nishiki-e by Kyosai Kawanabe and the artist's daughter, Gyokusui Kawanabe, all celebrating the rich diversity of the living world. On view are finely observed studies of animals drawn from life, alongside imaginative works such as Fashionable Battle of Frogs, in which frogs take on human roles, and a delightful series of nishiki-e featuring animals in playful, humorous scenes.
