Artists

Unichi Hiratsuka
Unichi Hiratsuka traveled extensively in Japan and abroad for printmaking workshops and sketching trips before World War II and created many woodblock prints of landscapes he encountered on his travels. "Summer Clouds of Mount Asama," which depicts the mountain as seen from Karuizawa, is characterized by strong, moving lines that attempt to convey the life force of the mountain. Hiratsuka's richly colored polychromatic woodblock prints are also a highlight.
