Manabu Miyazaki (1949-) was born in Minakata Village (now Nakagawa Village), Kamiina County, Nagano Prefecture, at the foot of the Central Alps. As a "news photographer of the natural world," he continues to observe nature throughout Japan.
Miyazaki has pioneered his own unique field in photographing mammals and birds of prey, such as his "Kemono Michi" series, in which he installed a self-made robot camera with an infrared sensor in the paths of animals to capture difficult-to-photograph images of them in the wild. He has also tackled social themes that highlight human society through animal ecology, such as wild animals that appear near human living spaces and the impact of non-native animals.
The latest work in the series, "New Animal Eyes" and "The Sky I Want to Show You" are based on the concept of "seeing the forests where animals live from the animals' point of view," carefully deciphering the traces of animals and capturing the world beyond the reach of human eyes with a self-made robot camera. This exhibition traces the trajectory of Miyazaki's artistic activities over the past half century, and attempts to bring into relief the nature that does not speak silently.
