Masayoshi Sasaki passed away on March 29, 2024. Throughout his life, Sasaki left behind numerous paintings and sculptures. His early works involved dismantling and reconstructing human bodies, gradually evolving into more figurative expressions using spray paint. Even after returning to the brush following the fall of the Berlin Wall, he depicted various subjects, including recurring themes of war, terrorism, and disasters, reflecting concerns about political distrust and rightward shifts. The messages embedded in his works continue to resonate, addressing issues within human society that remain relevant today.
This memorial exhibition will display work from each stage of Sasaki's career. Additionally, two talk events will take place to commemorate Sasaki. The first event will reflect on Sasaki's paintings, while the second will focus on the sculptural education Sasaki provided, discussing what has been learned from him and what should be passed on, featuring guests who were closely associated with Sasaki on both occasions.
