Taiku Tokuno
Taiku Tokuno (born Teruo Tokuno), born in Gokan Village, Usui District, Gunma Prefecture (now Shitagokan, Annaka City), studied under Shinrai Handa. After graduating from Gunma Normal School, he served at Akima Elementary School in Usui District, Gunma Prefecture. In August of that year, he participated in the summer course at Shogakuin, deepening his commitment to calligraphy. In 1935, he moved to Tokyo to study under Tenrai Hidai, dedicating himself to calligraphy research. After Hiraide's death, he studied under Yukei Teshima, gaining recognition by winning the top prize at the Dai-Nippon Shodo-in Exhibition.

After World War II, Tokuno, who played a leading role in the post-war calligraphy world, expanded the scope of calligraphy by pursuing the possibilities of modern calligraphy with a strong emphasis on sculptural works and single-character calligraphy. His pursuit even extended to the creation of his brushes and ink.

This exhibition will showcase Tokuno's works from the time he determinedly moved to Tokyo to pursue calligraphy to his final years. It offers a great opportunity to look back on the calligraphic achievements of Tokuno, who sprinted through his limited 60 years of life with full force.
