The Kariya Art Museum frequently holds special exhibitions of illustrations for picture books and magazines, and actively collects original artwork and posters that have been exhibited in these special exhibitions to create a distinctive collection. The museum's poster collection began in 2010 with a special exhibition of Nagoya-born illustrator Akira Uno, and since then, the scope of the collection has expanded to include artists who were contemporaries of Uno. The collection has grown to more than 200 pieces over the past 10 years.
This exhibition introduces approximately 40 Japanese posters from the 1960s onward that have colored culture and society. In addition to posters from a diverse range of genres that evoke the atmosphere of the times, including theater, music, film, fine arts, advertising, publishing, design, and peace activities, the exhibition also features some of the official art posters for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games collected in FY2021.
