Hiro Gallery (Ginza, Tokyo) is pleased to present "Luce nell’Ombra (Light in the Shadow)," the second solo exhibition by Italian contemporary artist Michela Pedron. (Her first exhibition with us was held in 2017 at Hiro Gallery Izu Kogen / Izu Okawa.)
Michela Pedron is an Italian artist based in Trento and Venice. For this exhibition, as suggested by the title "Light in the Shadow," she will primarily present seven new works that express light and shadow using a single color: black.
Pedron’s works often feature motifs such as crows, deer, and forest landscapes—each depicted with an awareness of the dualities they embody, and explored through the multifaceted nature of the color black. Instead of traditional canvas, she uses patterned Venetian fabrics and lace, which she has collected over many years, adding a layer of cultural context rooted in her upbringing. The exhibition also includes works finished with kitsch color palettes and a sense of humor, giving them a pop sensibility.
While the materials, motifs, colors, and techniques vary widely, a consistent theme of “duality” runs through all of Pedron’s work. By reconsidering the boundaries between such as sacred and profane, light and dark, beauty and ugliness, good and evil—she invites viewers to break free from the fixed perspectives of daily life.
Through this perspective, the exhibition keenly addresses contemporary societal issues, prompting reflection on the importance of "the ability to discern true essence" through her art. We sincerely invite you to visit and experience this compelling exhibition.
