From a young age, Michio Hoshino was captivated by the northern wilderness and lived in the far northern land of Alaska. Though he passed away in an accident during a photography assignment over 25 years ago, his stunning photos of nature and animals, along with his beautiful prose, continue to enchant many fans. The vast wilderness of the Arctic, the wildlife and people who live there, and the enduring myths... Hoshino deepened his thoughts through many "encounters" and grew as a photographer. This exhibition provides an overview of his journey, from his first visit to an Alaskan village at the age of 20 to the photos he took just before his untimely death on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
The exhibition also features valuable materials, including the first letter he wrote to the mayor of Shishmaref village when he was 20, tracing the footsteps of Hoshino, who tragically passed away before completing his journey. This exhibition has been touring various locations nationwide since 2021, with Nagaoka City Tochio Art Museum being the ninth venue to host it.
