Midori Arai and Shisa Yoshimi share a strong interest in corporeality and incorporate elements of chance and improvisation into their works as they progress in their artistic endeavors.
Arai's dynamic brushstrokes and compositions reminiscent of infinite space in her works are drawn based on the limitations of the body. The energetic brushstrokes and layers that appear on the canvas, guided either by the movements her body remembers or unconsciously led, vividly reveal Arai's memories and heartbeat. Viewers facing Arai's works will become aware of their limitations by tracing the traces she has left behind.
Shisa Yoshimi is an artist who works on creating artworks themed around abstract concepts such as mythology, rituals, traditions, and customs. Referring to Yuval Noah Harari's concept of "shared fiction," which discusses humanity's uniqueness in sharing abstract concepts, Murasaki considers the environment and the body as tools for sharing abstract concepts. She layers lines and colors, surrendering to the randomness and spontaneity they possess. In this exhibition, she unfolds works inspired by Kabuki stage settings and the corporeality of ballet.
