Artists

Mieko Tadokoro
Mieko Tadokoro is a photographer who has been presenting her works using a pinhole camera. This exhibition will feature 52 original prints (all in black and white) from her "Still Life" series of photographs of fruits and vegetables and her "Show Windows" series of photographs taken on the streets of Paris.

The "Still Life" series was inspired by still life paintings made with a camera obscura* in the 17th century. The works, which take about 30 minutes per shot, combine fruits and vegetables such as pears, grapes, onions, and asparagus, capturing nature's form in a richly emotional way.

The "Show Windows" series focuses on the pan-focus characteristic of needle-hole photography, simultaneously capturing the objects on display and the Parisian cityscape reflected in the glass. The works shot with a needle-hole camera made of cans during unpopular hours, create a mysterious resonance by harmonizing the interior and exterior of the space.

Tadokoro's fantastic works, created over time and with love for his subjects, illustrate the rich creativity of photographic expression through the use of simple principles. The needle-hole camera that produced these works will also be on display.
