Pali Gallery is pleased to present "Musuu," a solo exhibition by Moeco Yamazaki from October 1 to November 20, 2012. Yamazaki is the first artist to participate in Pali Gallery Air, the gallery's newly established artist-in-residence program. Based in Tokyo and Yonaguni Island, Yamazaki has been focusing on photographic expression and, in recent years, on producing paper for photo printing. The title "Musuu" means "to tie / musubu" in the dialect of Miyako. "Musubu" is derived from the word "musuhi," which in the Shinto religion is thought to be a mysterious power that gives birth to all things. People worshiped the cord or rope, created by twisting, twisting, and other actions, as a mystical being and received divine blessings. During her stay in Miyakojima, Yamazaki experienced a local festival held during the old Bon to pray for a good harvest and rain. This experience inspired the word "musuu" in the title of this exhibition. In addition to her work on Miyako Island, this exhibition will also feature two-dimensional and three-dimensional works created on Yonaguni Island.
