Momotaro Exhibition

The Museum of Kyoto
Finished
The familiar Japanese folk hero "Momotaro" has been depicted using traditional painting techniques from three countries around the world: Tingatinga art from Tanzania, Batuan painting from Indonesia, and Miniature art from Iran. A total of 22 paintings were created specifically for this exhibition, making their world premiere.

The participating artists in this exhibition were not familiar with Momotaro. Unique Japanese words such as "oni" (demon), "kibidango" (millet dumplings), and "donburako" were given new interpretations. Through the fusion of each country's culture with Japan's Momotaro, a nostalgic yet novel version of Momotaro was born.
