The museum collection exhibition will be divided into four phases, introducing the museum's wide-ranging collection, including daimyo's tools inherited from the Hosokawa family, calligraphy and crafts related to Kumamoto, modern art, and Western paintings.

The first phase will introduce the armor of successive lords from the Hosokawa family, as well as choju, used for eating and drinking in the open air, and maki-e lacquer-work furniture with cherry blossom design, all of which were used during the spring holiday season.

Also on display are Kumamoto swords from the Enju school, various pottery, as well as masterpieces of Japanese painting, including Shunso Hishida's "Falling Leaves." In addition, works by painters associated with Kumamoto will be introduced to trace modern and contemporary art trends in Kumamoto, as well as Western paintings from the museum's collection.

AccessFrom the Shirakawa exit (East exit) of JR Kumamoto Station, take the Streetcar and get off at Kumamoto Castle / City Hall.
