Nanae Fujikawa "See - Saw"

Gallery Out of Place
Finished

Artists

Nanae Fujikawa
For 20 years since completing her studies at Kyoto University of Art and Design, Fujikawa has been based in the Kansai region, constantly confronting her own inner self and presenting primitive abstract expressions, comparing the images and colours that emerge to ancient burial mound murals.
However, the work she is showing at Gallery Out of Place this time marks a significant change. She continues to focus on figurative motifs that in the past would ultimately be erased from the screen, and her aggressive brushstrokes, which seem to surge out beyond the frame of the screen, are spurred on to reach a unique world of free and bold semi-abstract semi-figurative work.
It can be seen as an act of anti-uroborosian thinking and reminds us of the sense that she is about to take an even greater leap than before.
