Yokota Tokyo is pleased to present the exhibition “Nathan Lerner: Photographs, Chicago–Japan.”
Lerner bloomed as a painter, photographer, product designer, and educator while he was influenced by the aesthetic of New Bauhaus, entailed by his critical meeting with László Moholy-Nagy. Photography was the creative axis of his versatility, and he pursued taking photographs throughout his life.
This is the second solo show of Lerner at Yokota Tokyo, exhibiting the masterpieces from his significant portfolios that Lerner himself compiled. The portfolio encompasses his whole creation from the earliest works, photographs of energetic cityscape in the 1930s Chicago and people surviving in the tough times, photographs experimenting with light, to the late photographs of Lerner’s frequent stays in Japan during the 1970s. These attractive images selected by Lerner would get us to the kernel of his creation.
Yokota Tokyo holds the namesake talk event on March 20. Speakers who personally know Lerner and his works introduce the artist’s creation and his era to the audience.
