This is the 48th edition of "New Art Scene in Iwaki" introducing contemporary artists associated with Iwaki.
Kota Takeuchi was born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1982, graduated from the Department of Advanced Art Expression, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008, and moved to Iwaki City in 2013. His works include "Blind Bomb" (2022), a video work on the theme of balloon bombs released toward the U.S. mainland during World War II, and "Finger Pointing Worker's Proxy" (2011-), which depicts the state of the media surrounding the nuclear power plant accident that exposed the reality of nuclear decommissioning work. His messages from an artist's point of view, which he delivers from a bird's eye view of society as an eyewitness to the times, have attracted attention. He has also presented work based in Iwaki City, such as the video installation "Sanbakoza Demolition" (2013), which was based on the demolition of a movie theater built in the Meiji era in Joban-yumoto.
This exhibition introduces Takeuchi's current work, which moves easily across temporal and spatial distances, from the contemporary to the modern, and from Iwaki to the world.
Venue: Iwaki Municipal Museum of Art, 1st-floor lobby
