Ningyo Conservation at Nimpaku— Cultural Properties for the Future

Iwatsuki Ningyo Museum
Finished
The Nimpaku Museum, known for its delicate doll collection made from materials like wood and washi paper, has been continuously restoring these dolls since 2009. The museum follows a philosophy of preserving the original state of the items with minimal changes. A dedicated restoration room was established in 2020, making this a notable feature of the museum. The exhibition showcases their restoration efforts, including various treatments and challenging costume restorations, reflecting on the progress made over the past 15 years and considering future directions in doll restoration.

*Nimpaku refers to the Iwatsuki Ningyo Museum in Saitama City.
