Niya Niya
Having relocated their base from the United States to Shonan in 2017, Niya Niya has been involved in various projects with brands and local organizations both domestically and internationally. The exhibition title "Found & Formed" carries the meaning of "works created by upcycling discarded wood."

Since returning to Japan, the countries of Asia have become familiar to them. They have visited towns and villages in countries like Vietnam and Sri Lanka, spending precious years, and experiencing the activities of people they met during their travels, the landscapes of foreign countries, and the customs and traditions that have been passed down through generations. Everyday ups and downs over various events. Gradually, their travels became a place of learning, and they found themselves captivated by discarded materials encountered on street corners and beaches. These materials, with unique styles and flavors that have matured over time, originating from different backgrounds and stories. The discovery is that, by combining the individual, distinctive, irregular, and imperfect wooden fragments like puzzles or patchworks, they are reborn anew. They dig up the "things" and "matters" of modern society that have become unnecessary due to the pursuit of convenience, reexamine them from new perspectives, and connect the seemingly insignificant dots.

Continuously examining the familiar "things" and "matters" as their motifs, Niya Niya injects new meaning into works based on discarded materials. These works are filled with small joys and pleasures that are present but may go unnoticed unless one pays attention.
