Hiroshi Noda (1936- ) is one of Japan’s leading realism painters. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Noda worked as an illustrator, but his desire to create paintings grew and he began to devote himself to painting in his mid-30s. After teaching younger artists at the Hiroshima City University Faculty of Art, even in his 80s, Noda continues to lead the world of realism in painting, even though he has passed the age of 80.
This exhibition is a retrospective of Hiroshi Noda's painting career, from his early years to his recent work. The exhibition will feature work from his student days when he was searching for his style, as well as illustrations and designs from his days at an advertising firm. From his detailed still-life paintings ("Black Age/Gold Age") when he made his debut in the art world, to the original illustrations for the serialized newspaper novel "Marshland" (written by Otohiko Kaga), which made his name known nationwide. He has also painted bones or living human beings to show his view of life and death in his series " Tokijiku" and "The," as well as his recent series of life-size portraits, "Sacred" and "Sublime". The exhibition traces the path of realism that Hiroshi Noda has taken in pursuit of "being" by consistently and unflinchingly gazing at and depicting people, still life, and landscapes, regardless of the motif in front of him.
