Nokogiriyama Museum of Art will hold an event entitled, “Nokogiriyama Nihonji Temple marks its 1300th year since its founding. ~Lights Gently swaying to and pro~ Akihiko Iwanami Exhibition.”

Akihiko Iwanami (Born in 1966, in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture) is an artist who has been active at the forefront of Modern Japanese Paintings since 1980s. He has been highly recognized by those involved in art from inside and outside Japan for his “ Portraits of Cities” series that he has been working on for a long time as his lifework and in which he has been clearly recording the appearance of changing times using urban city scapes such as New York and Tokyo as motifs.

At this exhibition, the museum will feature and exhibit art works drawn refreshingly and emotionally with extremely refined brush strokes. Over 10 years, he collected information about 1,500 Louhan Stone Statues at Nokogiriyama Nihonji Temple founded by Gyoki Bosatsu 1,300 years ago who was ordered by Emperor Shomu fascinated by beautiful Nogogiriyama and also Boshu Stone quarries.

In addition, at Room No.2, centering on exhibition works of “Inten” , the Japan Fine Arts Institute Exhibition, which capture the existence of light, sound and invisible air skillfully, the museum will introduce his path through works with sharpened five senses.

In the latter half of the exhibition, entitled “~The beginning of the journey~”, the museum will introduce the charms of his works created when he was young such as “A piece of eternity”, a graduation art work of Tama Art University.
