Notre-Dame de Paris - The Augmented Exhibition

National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
Finished
Notre-Dame De Paris -The Augmented Exhibition Is a groundbreaking interactive exhibit in which visitors use augmented reality, assisted by a tablet called a HistoPad, to time travel through the history of Notre Dame de Paris, from the very beginnings of its construction to the present day.

As visitors make their way through the venue, they use the tablet to interact with the physical objects on display, opening " time portals" that take the visitor to AR scenes from various stages of the construction of the Cathedral, portraying its construction and the work of the artisans involved, as well as the current restoration efforts and the technologies involved therein. The simplicity of interactivity and the additional sense of immersion provided by the use of AR allow any visitor to enjoy their trip across history.

Built over 800 years ago on the Île de la Cité in Paris, Notre-Dame de Paris stands as a renowned masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a beloved symbol of Paris, dedicated to Our Lady (the Virgin Mary). Despite suffering significant damage in a devastating fire on April 15, 2019, experts from diverse fields have united in a remarkable effort to restore its former glory. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as drone surveys and detailed digital modeling, combined with the expertise of specialists in architecture and art restoration, the restoration efforts have been ongoing for five years, and its revival is underway.

This exhibition aims to retell the journey of this UNESCO-listed site and spotlight the process of recovering its former grandeur with the aid of cutting-edge technologies. Having received acclaim during its global tour, including its successful debut in Dubai in 2021, this traveling exhibition has been held in 16 countries around the world. Notre-Dame de Paris: The Augmented Exhibition culminates its journey with a special showcase tailored for Japanese audiences as the cathedral prepares to complete its restoration and reopen its doors in December 2024.
