This exhibition reinterprets a series of existing objects and originals, as well as presenting a series of copies of them edited together with photographer Luis Ronald.
"In other words," is an expression used to introduce a statement that repeats what has been said in a different, sometimes more precise way. The phrase also generates editing, reproduction, and alterity - it can be seen as a contemporary attitude toward visual culture in which contemporary images and texts are circulated, preserved, copied, edited, circulated again, and sometimes the original is forgotten. In other words, the exhibition is a reshaping of existing objects, statements, and facts.
Each of the images in the exhibition - whether unfamiliar, reconstructed, rarely used, or presented in a more direct and clinical way - exploits this duality. The prints are not framed but hung in space, revealing their materiality. The photograph then reveals the dissonance between presentation and representation, extending the relationship between "object and space" and "object and image," offering multiple perspectives on the same subject. In other words, these images challenge different practices of "making" and "seeing."
In Other Words was founded in 2015 by Oliver Knight and Lorrie McGrath. As an experimental publishing house, In Other Words has produced approximately 28 publications to date and continues to do so. Fundamentally, they are interested in exploring the book form and its resonance as a book=object in culture at large. In short, they support and further develop collaborative exchanges with artists and cultural practitioners through the production of carefully crafted contextual and printed materials.
During the exhibition, In Other Words will be selling publications released during 2015-2022, and prints by photographer Luis Ronald will be on display and for sale.
