Okamoto Naohiro Curator's Eye

Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Naohiro Okamoto
Naohiro Okamoto, who studied sculpture at the Tokyo University of the Arts, has been presenting delicately sculpted wood carvings that appear to be a combination of human figures and plants.

In recent years, he participated in a project to recreate the burnt-out Buddha statues of Mokuoku Shonin, and over the course of two years, starting in 2018, he carved five Buddha statues. Okamoto continues to sculpt, utilizing the materiality of wood to breathe new life into his work through his unique forms. This exhibition will be an opportunity to experience the clarity of his worldview.
