Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts Collection Exhibition

Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished
In May 1936, the land at Chausuyama, Tennoji, where the main residence of the Sumitomo family was located, was donated to the City of Osaka, along with its garden (Keitakuen), and the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts was opened. The main building of the museum is a registered tangible cultural property, a rare example of a large prewar art museum.

The museum's collection of over 8,500 works includes a wide variety of Japanese and Chinese paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, and crafts, and is unique in that it collects the collections of business people active in the Kansai region. The Abe Collection of Chinese calligraphy and paintings, the Yamaguchi Collection of Chinese and stone sculptures, the Taman Collection of oriental art, mainly Buddhist art, the Casal Collection of approximately 4,000 lacquer works and materials related to Korin Ogata, which were handed down by the Konishi family, and the Sumitomo Collection of major works by modern Japanese painters. The museum has a wide variety of collections from antiquities to modern art.

During the period when the museum is closed for extensive renovations in anticipation of its 90th anniversary, 172 works carefully selected from these masterpieces will be presented in a single exhibition.
