'Paper Sanctuary' The Reality and Poetry of Ukranian Refugees - Shigeru Ban

Oita Prefectural Art Museum
Finished
The architect of the museum, Shigeru Ban, proposed the "Paper Sanctuary," using the temporary partition system "PPS" that he devised for use in evacuation shelters, to exhibit the works of Ukrainian poet, novelist, and literary translator Svetlana Lavochkina, Berlin-based photographer Vincent Hayes, and Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov, who resides in Berlin as a war refugee. The "Paper Sanctuary" aims to showcase their works in the context of the ongoing conflict, utilizing the PPS at the London Design Biennale.

This exhibition is part of a domestic tour and is organized by the museum to communicate the activities of Ban, who has continued to support Ukraine by collaborating with architects and networks worldwide since the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. The exhibition seeks to convey Ban's involvement with a broad audience and is particularly relevant in the context of the ongoing conflict.
