Picture Book "Anpanman": The Origin of Anpanman

P&P Gallery
Finished
Anpanman is a tremendously popular superhero character among young Japanese children. He was born from the picture book entitled "Anpanman."
In 1973, Anpanman first appeared in Kinder Ohanashi Ehon, a monthly subscription picture book for kindergarteners and preschoolers. The title then was written in a different style of Japanese script than it is today.
Since then, Anpanman has been loved by children across generations and has become so popular today that nearly everyone in Japan knows about the character. This year marks the 50 anniversary of the debut of Anpanman. This exhibition showcases the origin of Anpanman, featuring reproductions of the original pictures.
