Shigemi Hijikata
Shigemi Hijikata (1915-1986) shared playwright Tadashi Iizawa's beliefs and created many fascinating characters as a designer. Beginning in 1952, the series of picture book dolls designed by Hijikata crossed national borders and was shown in 78 countries and 15 countries, including the United States, France, Germany, and others. The series has been published in 78 countries, including the U.S., France, and Germany, in 15 languages and 80 different versions. Hijikata is also the creator of the much-loved Sato Pharmaceutical character "Sato-chan," and together with Tadashi Iizawa created animated puppet commercials for Asahi Beer and Mitsuwa Soap, leaving his mark on the field of corporate advertising.

This exhibition also features many posters and flyers of ballet and opera performances that Hijikata created as a freelance designer after the war, as well as posters of classic films and cultural films that he worked on for Toho before and during the war. The exhibition traces Hijikata's diverse work through rare original drawings, posters, goods, and videos.
